This fall I was so excited for a spontaneous trip up to Newport, Rhode Island with my parents and their best friends. We were going to see their son Grant play football. He is a senior at Brown University and the kicker. My parents had ventured up to Rhode Island the previous year for a game but stayed right in Providence. They all agreed Newport would be the perfect place to stay.
The moment we drove down the main drag in Newport I was hooked. Cute shops lined the streets and beautiful sailboats sat in the water. We parked our car at the VRBO rental, and I instantly started exploring.
This perfect door was right across the parking lot. I saw the whale tail and went running. It was so perfectly New England. I can’t remember the last time I visited somewhere that I fell in love with so quickly!
This was our amazing view from our porch. Another amazing thing about Rhode Island??? It is home to my favorite beer! We walked down to the local convenience store and stocked up. There were so many fabulous spots to choose from for dinner. We ended up at a little place my mom had made reservations at. I can’t remember the name, but it wasn’t very memorable.
The next morning we woke up early and walked the ENTIRE cliff walk! It was great at first, but by the end we were all dying! It got pretty technical in spots, and we were literally climbing the rocks. I had just gotten my new LL Bean Bean Boots and they were perfect for Newport. I loved getting to see the beautiful mansions that lined the cliffs. I can’t even IMAGINE living in one of them!
We were starving after our long adventure so we came back into town and went to Midtown Oyster Bar. SO YUMMY. I had been dying for some good New England Clam Chowder and this hit the spot. They also had some pretty fabulous gin n tonics.
We headed into Providence fairly early to watch Grant’s game. It was FREEZING. It was very different to watch a Brown game vs. a UF game. The stadium is very small. It was really exciting to watch Grant play! I have known Grant forever! Unfortunately, Brown lost the game. Minus the loss, it was still a fun day. We walked around campus and it was stunning.
I feel like as we continued to explore I fell more and more in love. We went to Castle Hill Inn for sunset drinks and OMG it was spectacular. I was to live in this Inn. It is right on the point, with all of the Adirondack chairs on the lawn. Again, it was freezing, but we didn’t mind because we had such a breathtaking view.
I snapped this as we left Newport. I love that we got to see the trees change! It was WAY too short of a trip, but I loved every second of it. The small town charm was evident every place we went. I wish Grant wasn’t graduating, or else I would be tagging along to every home football game!
Here is the video I put together of our SHORT but AMAZING time in Newport!
