Keep Austin Weird

ExploringMy first trip to Texas was a visit to Austin. I had seen a lot of people talking about what a fun city Austin is, and I really wanted to explore it. Rodan + Fields Convention just happened to be in Austin, so it was a WIN WIN for me! There was a slight change of plans when my sweet friend Amanda found out she was pregnant and could not longer come with! It ended up working out because she got to rest up, and my friend Caitlin was up for an adventure! Screen shot 2015-11-18 at 5.43.59 PM

I knew I wanted to do some hiking while in Austin. I found so many different hikes within an hour of the city, just by searching on Pinterest!  We had a really hard time just picking one. We decided to hike to McKinney Falls. It was a beautiful day, and the perfect short hike. The waterfalls were small, but beautiful you could walk right up to the edge and look over.

Speaking of planning, Caitlin and I had a shared Google Doc where we put every restaurant we wanted to visit. Our list was extremely crazy and we could have just eaten the entire trip and still not have visited everywhere. The big one on my list was Fork and Taco. I mean come on, how adorable are those tacos! They were so unique and delicious.

Caitlin found Gordough’s Public House and OH MY GOODNESS! did it impress. I am not a big donut fan, but their donuts are mind blowing. I literally dream about them. If you go to Austin you have to stop here. There are so many creative concoctions on the menu, you seriously can’t go wrong.

Friday Night we met up with my sorority sister Lauren, that lives in Austin. She showed up Rainey Street, which is a collection of old houses that has been turned into bars. The first one we visited was the Container Bar, and it was all made out of old shipping containers. Caitlin and I loved Rainey Street. I thought it was a lot more fun that the always talked about 6th Street.

Of course we had to drive around and find the Austin sign for a picture. There were a few people in front of us, but we parked right by it, hopped out and snapped a picture!

The town of Austin is very artsy, and young! There is so much to do, and I wish we had more time to explore. It was the perfect place to explore for a weekend trip. We rented a car and that ended up being the perfect thing. We stayed a little bit out of town, so we could have a cheaper stay, and with the car we were able to easily cruise into town. It also helped when we wanted to wander a little out of town to explore. Screen shot 2015-11-18 at 7.06.38 PM
