Summer School just began last week…and to be completely honest I am NOT feeling the whole school vibe! It has been OVER a year since I have had to take classes on campus (Pre-Internship and Full-Time Internship) so now that I am back in the classroom I am doing everything in my power to avoid reading for school. I have been extremely lucky to have a Biffle that LOVES to read, and can always recommend a GREAT book! I swear she has never recommended a bad book to me. I spent my entire Summer Break (all ten days of it) reading, and now I can’t stop…it is a seriously like a disease! So what have I been spending all my time reading?? (Click the book covers to read the GoodReads description) Note! I am only including the books I really enjoyed!
1. INSURGENT by Veronica Roth
I had been waiting (im)patiently for this book to come out ever since I finished Divergent! I really enjoyed the character development in this book for most the characters. Veronica Roth does not disappoint with the second book in this trilogy! I am counting down the days until the third and final book is released. Also! The author of this book is only TWENTY THREE!!!!! Crazy right?
2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
After reading the description of this book, I was not very interested in it. It sounded a little too strange for my liking, but as I mentioned my Biffle has never let me down in book suggestions so I decided to read it. It is the first book in a “trilogy,” but this trilogy is much different than others. The characters are not the same in each book but all the stories connect in a really interesting way.
3. Fire by Kristen Cashore
This was my FAVORITE book of the trilogy! The first and last books were a little slow, but Fire made up for it. I honestly do not know WHY I loved this book so much, but I think it was the story line and the characters. Kristin Cashore did a great job setting up an exciting story that catches the readers attention very quickly. She also creates a sense of suspense and mystery that keeps to reader going!
4. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
This was the final book in the trilogy, and probably the one I had the highest hopes for! We meet Bitterblue in Graceling, and this book follows her later in life. It was another quick read, and Cashore left me curious to reach the end but to be honest I was a little disappointed by the end of this book.
5. Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Meet my newest obsession…Game of Thrones! My brother made me watch the HBO show during our break and I was instantly hooked! I watched the entire first season and beginning of second season in a day and a half (pathetic, I know) I LOVE the intricate story that is presented in this novel. I am currently on the second book and I am itching to get past the TV show! I swear this book has something for everyone…it is a much more challenging read than the other books mentioned (close to 900 pages!). This will be the ONE and ONLY time I ever recommend watching the show before reading the book! I think that helped me understand and keep the characters in order, and I was also invested in finding out what was going to happen next!
I have now read 17 BOOKS (That is how many books I read in ALL of 2011!) towards my goal of 30 books!
Let me know what GREAT Books you’ve been reading in the comment section!
